The potential of 360-degree virtual reality videos to teach water-safety skills to children

This study investigated the potential of Virtual Reality (VR), using 360-degree (360°) videos, as a tool to teach children about water-safety skills. Children (n = 182) aged 10–12 years were randomly assigned learn water safety one three instructional mediums: 360° VR traditional video, or poster. The training was designed address specific themes that contributed drowning in coastal environments, allowing dangers rip currents relatively safe environment. Overall, 95% showed improved knowledge after participating workshop and retained their during subsequent tests both eight weeks later. No difference found learning outcomes obtained across mediums; however, participants medium reported higher levels interest enjoyment than other two mediums (91% students video group activity engaging versus 61% for 51% poster).
